I have a few different designs of gift boxes I make with 2 of my designs below. Woods that have interesting grain patterns or colors that either contrast or compliment each other are selected to craft my gift boxes, but any woods can be used so the look can be customized however you like. The size of each gift box is customizable as well, with the interior size being the most important so what you have in mind to store in there will fit well. I apply a special finish to the inside compartments of the box and drawers called flock. The flock I use is cut nylon and is available in solid colors which add a nice visual aspect. The material of the flock gives the compartments a soft, velvety feel that is nice to touch while adding a layer of protection to avoid scratching jewelry, watches, or whatever else is stored in the compartments. Typically I finish the outer portions of my gift boxes with a special blend of different finishes I like to use for non food safe items that are handled often. This blend of finishes was designed to enhance and protect the wood while leaving a soft feel when touched.
This design is crafted by gluing together 4 pieces of 3/4" material then a series of cuts are made on my band saw to arrive at the final shape and size. The drawer pulls are cut and glued to the front of the drawers before finishing.

The top, bottom, and all 4 side pieces are milled to 1/4" thick. I cut box joints to fasten this design together with glue, but I will also cut dovetails. The top is cut to be a "friction fit", meaning I cut it so exact that it will not slide to open unless it is pulled open and it slides out to reveal the flocked inner compartment. I cut a finger grip near the front of the top for a place to insert the tip of your finger to make opening easier. I recorded a couple of videos showing how these boxes look and function.
