I designed a pizza peel for use with pizza stones and/or pizza ovens. It is 26 3/4” long overall with a handle that is 11 1/2" long. The part of the peel dedicated for pizza is 1/2" thick while being 11 3/4" wide at the narrowest point and 13 1/4" wide at the widest point. I cut a small bevel on the underside and a larger bevel on the top to make removing pizza from the stone and/or oven easier. The corners have been rounded off and the edges have been rounded over for easy handling. The glue used is waterproof and food safe. The finish I use on these is a blend of mineral oils and wax, all of which are food safe. You will need to reapply finish to these once in awhile to protect and keep it looking nice. To help with this you can use the information I provide on the Cutting Board Care page of this website.
Maple and cherry are the woods I selected for the pizza peels shown below. They are durable and beautiful woods that do not cause allergic reactions that other woods such as walnut can. Sapele, purpleheart, and padauk are other woods I frequently use in pizza peels, but if you have certain woods or colors of wood you want in yours, I can look into sourcing them.
Contact me if you have any questions or want to order one. This, just like the rest of the products I make can be customized.
Maple and cherry pizza peel,
I cut the wood a specific way to get the grain to turn out this way.
The handle is doubled in thickness to make handling easier.
The top and bottom edges along the front are beveled to make removing pizza from a stone and/or oven easier.
This is the bottom side of the pizza peel.
